Oldschool is and educational programme that bridges the gap between the loneliest generations in New Zealand, highschoolers and the elderly community.
Oldschool was created as a social campaign to address the loneliness epidemic that is raging through NZ. Through user research and insights into the groups most affected by loneliness, it was found that through increased social interaction the affects of loneliness would decrease. With this knowledge it was crucial to try and understand how we can get people to have more interactions with each other and to create a service that was able to solve these issues the users are facing.
After many prototypes and discussions with the impacted users and their peers, it was questioned how could we link the two most lonely generations together to help battle the epidemic. And that’s when the Oldschool concept was born.
Oldschool was created with the focus of human centred design - to make something to solve a bigger issue. Oldschool is a specifically designed NZQA educational program run throughout NZ high schools, which gives students the chance to work together with the elderly community, learning about loneliness and how they can connect with each other and build meaningful relationships to help combat the feelings of loneliness.
The Oldschool website was built with responsive HTML CSS and JS and is an interactive, enjoyable and unique user experience, designed to allow the users to learn all about what Oldschool does and download the ready made resources they need to run Oldschool in their schools.
Using education, inclusivity and purpose Oldschool was created. With the principles of user research, problem solving, prototyping and a focus on human centred design, these aspects paved the way for Oldschool to be a solution to the profound loneliness epidemic in NZ - take a look below!
